Why people practise yoga
Yoga commonly combines movement, breathing, and focused attention. People may practise it for flexibility, balance, relaxation, cultural or spiritual reasons, or general wellbeing. Benefits vary by person and by the style and intensity of practice.
Start at your level
Choose movements you can perform comfortably, use modifications, and increase difficulty gradually. A qualified instructor can help with alignment.
What yoga cannot promise
Yoga does not guarantee prevention or cure of physical or mental illness. It should not be used as a reason to stop treatment or avoid professional assessment.
Make it sustainable
A short, regular practice may be more manageable than forcing difficult poses. Rest when needed and adapt practice to age, ability, injuries, and health conditions.
Safety and limits
If you have a medical condition, significant pain, or symptoms that worsen with exercise, ask a healthcare professional about suitable activity.
