Choosing yoga postures safely
This guide explains how to approach yoga when wellbeing is the goal. It does not assign postures as cures for individual diseases: evidence for a particular posture cannot be inferred from traditional claims alone.
Start with comfort
Use gentle movements within a comfortable range and keep breathing naturally. A beginner class or qualified instructor can help with alignment and modifications.
Set realistic goals
People may use yoga to support flexibility, balance, or relaxation. Results vary, and yoga is not a guaranteed way to prevent or treat a medical condition.
Adapt to your health
Ask a healthcare professional about safe activity if you have a chronic condition, recent injury or surgery, significant pain, or symptoms that worsen with movement.
Safety and limits
Never delay assessment or treatment because of a yoga routine. Stop if you feel faint, have chest pain, or develop unusual breathing difficulty.
